Dem Blast February 26

Dem Blast February 26

Did you read what happened to the move to create a septic ordinance in Leelanau County last week?
After a lot of hard work by Ty Wessel, County Commissioner from Leelanau Township, the LCDP, Leelanau Clean Water and the League of Women Voters, creating an ordinance to protect our waters from septic waste was rejected by 5 of our 7 County Commissioners (only Patricia Soutas-Little supported it).  They mainly cited personal property rights – but how about the rights of those whose water is fouled??  We need ‘property rights’ to include the rights of ALL citizens, not just those of a few who reject the idea there must be compromise for a community to thrive……but they hold the power in Leelanau County!
It is up to us, the progressive citizens of Leelanau County, to create a Blue Wave in this year’s elections – and WE CAN DO IT!   If you live in Solon or Kasson, Elmwood Townships – we need progressive candidates, who care about our quality of life, to run for County Commission in November!  We also need support in our Townships to help our candidates win in November……..to that end……
Here is a message from former Chair of the LCDP, and current Precinct Delegate Coordinator (aka Head Wrangler), Betsy Johnson:
Every day it becomes more apparent that this year’s upcoming election will be vitally important in shaping the way our country moves forward.  The outcome of the election is in our hands:  it’s up to US!
With that in mind, the LCDP is trying to increase our number of active Precinct Delegates throughout the county.  Precinct Delegates (PDs) are the backbone of the Democratic Party, forming a bridge between local voters, the Party and our candidates.  We need PDs to help inform voters in their local precincts about issues and candidates, recruit poll watchers on election day and, when possible, assist with get out the vote efforts, sign placement, etc.
Can you help?  We’re having a PD Orientation (we call it a “Round Up”) on April 18, where we’ll share information on serving as a Precinct Delegate and make the application forms available.
Please let me know if you are interested in being a Precinct Delegate.  Together, we can make a real difference!
FIRED UP?  READY TO WIN!
Betsy Johnson
Precinct Delegate Coordinator
