Dem Blast

Dem Blast

from Party Chair Gwenne Allgeier

How many times since Nov 8 have we all said that we could NOT believe what was happening?  It is a scary time…..things are happening that we thought were impossible in our ‘democracy’…..and we now see what a government without oversight from another party can do……
Citizens are rising up all across our nation – angry and afraid, and determined to act!  Our Senators ask us to keep it up – keep protesting, calling congressional offices, emailing and writing letters.  Our protest IS making a difference, and we need to keep it up!
What can we do?
– Subscribe to Rogan’s List for daily actions.
 – Michiganresistance.org has a weekly email with info on bills in the Michigan legislature.
 – Votespotter and Countable both give info on congressional votes.
 – Call daily!!
We are lucky to have 2 Democratic senators who are very progressive – emails to them supporting their resistance to the Trump agenda is effective for the TC office, calls or emails for the Washington office.  Go to their websites to send emails.  Their phone #’s are:
Senator Stabenow:  202 224 4822
Senator Peters:  202 224 6221
It is especially important to contact Representative Bergman, who is NOT representing us, but voting a straight party line.  Call his Washington office everyday – tell him to vote to protect the Great Lakes Initiative (to keep our Lakes clean), to protect the ACA, to demand Trump’s tax returns and have an independent investigation into his Russian ties.  Also, tell him we NEED A TOWN HALL MEETING IN TC!!
Local Indivisible groups have been going to Bergman’s office on tuesdays at 10:30 am since Jan 24 – we will continue until he talks to us!!  Join us there…..we stay for an hour, and tell staffers our concerns.
ALSO:   UPCOMING EVENTS…….
 – MARCH 11:  Mark Brewer will talk about the ‘Future of Mi Elections’ at Minerva’s from 9:30 to 11:30 am

BE SURE TO JOIN THE LEELANAU DEMOCRATIC PARTY, IF YOU HAVEN’T DONE SO ALREADY.  GO TO OUR WEBSITE, AND YOU WILL FIND INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO JOIN.  WE NEED TO FIGHT, AND YOUR MEMBERSHIP WILL HELP US DO THAT……
