ACTIVIST ACTIONS FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 27, 2020
If you are reading this on Monday, it’s only 189 days until the election!  If you’re reading it later, it’s even less! It’s a sprint to the finish line!
We are open for business (virtually of course) so drop in this week to Leelanau Indivisible’s happenings:

  • Leelanau Indivisible is offering three Zoom events this week.

Tuesday, 10 a.m. Coffee & Conversations Registration URL: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMpd-6opjkqHtA_HXobC0ktOUJgyin1Fm1P
Thursday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Postcards & LettersWe are looking for extra volunteers to help us write 175 postcards to voters in Nebraska for a group called Vote Tripling.  If this campaign is successful, we will be doing this in Michigan as well.  Details to be provided at this meeting. We are also writing GOTV (Get Out The Vote) letters to Michigan voters who are registered but have never voted.
Register in advance for this meeting: (this meeting reoccurs every Thursday at 10 a.m.) Registration URL: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYpfuCqrzwsGtWvpRYbz5CWR5aYu9CxX6bI

  • League of Women Voters “Climate Change Solutions in the Soil”

This program is about how good farming and good gardening practices can actually sequester carbon into the soil.  We might be able to mitigate some of the effects of climate change with these practices.  Local panelists will discuss these practices as well as building resilient systems for growing plants.  As more and more of us think about starting our own “Victory” gardens, this could help provide guidance on what to be thinking about when we are doing our planning.
You must register for this event in advance at www.crosshatch.org/events or call 231-714-9730.  You will receive information on how to connect to the meeting after registering.
Another interesting bit, there is an excellent movie out The Biggest little Farm.  You can stream/rent it on Amazon Prime for $3.99.

Most of you probably heard about the media statement put out by the sheriffs of the 101st House district a week or so ago in the Record Eagle declaring that they would selectively enforce Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe, Save Lives” executive order. One of our local residents was so appalled, he started a petition on change.org and is looking for 5,000 signatures.  Let’s help them reach that goal by signing the petition here:  https://www.change.org/p/the-sheriffs-of-northwest-michigan-counties-of-leelanau-pandemics-require-unity-local-sheriffs-choose-political-gamesmanship?recruiter=442402&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=share_email_responsive&utm_term=
