It is the function of the Board of Commissioners to:
- Set policy for the County
- Adopt and monitor an annual budget
- Equalize property tax assessments
- Set fees
- Contract for a yearly audit of all County funds
- Ensure the legal and efficient use of tax dollars
- Appoint other Boards and Commissioners
- Adopt ordinances
- Buy land for County use and sell County- owned property
- Enter into contract and agreements on behalf of Leelanau County
Members of the Public are encouraged to attend Commission meetings; meetings are recorded and available for listening/viewing. They are held each second Tuesday of each month, starting at 9:00 a.m., at the Government Center in Suttons Bay.
