We are a 501(c)(3) that distributes literacy materials to underserved children in Northern Lower Michigan. Go to https://www.powerbookbags.com to learn more.
Kama Ross, Democratic County Commissioner Candidate for Leelanau Countiy’s District #5 (Leland & Centerville Townships) volunteered with PoWeR! Book Bags and discovered they need more help! So, we would like to have a group of our wonderful LCDP members volunteer to lend a helping hand.
Monday- April 4th – 10:00 a.m. to Noon or longer.
The first Monday of each month at the Volunteer Center, Millside Building, 101 Dame Street, Unit #5, Suttons Bay
Tasks will be wide ranging- from stamping/stickering books to packaging pairs of books for WIC patrons, to packing book boxes for Early Head Start & Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP), to packing literacy bags with all materials (puppets, crayons, bookmarks, booklets, composition books, etc.), to assembling writing booklets and more!
Most of these jobs can be taken home to complete as well as in-person if preferred.
There is a sewing group in Leland headed up by Mary Fleishman, meeting at her home every Thursday. They produce 100+ hand-sewn bags each week.
Please contact Steve Gilbreath at [email protected] to volunteer.
Only 5 volunteers per day due to available space so if we get more than 5 volunteers, and you know we will because we know how important BOOKS are in growing young minds, a date in May will be made available.
Here are a couple of pictures of Kama and her friend Barb volunteering!
Volunteer and have some FUN at the same time!
Thank You
