Virtual Town Halls on Redistricting ProcessPublic invited to learn about redistricting in Michigan
The League of Women Voters of Leelanau County and Traverse Area Community Media are holding virtual town hall events to educate Michigan voters on the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission’s process in drawing new legislative and congressional maps for federal and state house representatives and the state senate.
The virtual town halls will take place on April 11, 2021 at 3 pm and again on April 22, 2021 at 7 pm.  League members will discuss the new process of redistricting in Michigan, the criteria of Communities of Interest and the opportunities for the public to provide input to the Commission before it draws the maps.
Redistricting in Michigan has been a very political process that has historically taken place behind closed doors and out of the public eye, This new independent process gives regular, everyday Michigan residents the ability to draw the state’s legislative districts. We want the public to be empowered with information so they can participate in this important and historic democratic process.
