Fired Up Ready to Vote

Fired Up Ready to Vote

Absentee Ballots will be mailed this week in Michigan!
We recommend filling out your AV ballot and mailing it to your clerk right away, why wait!  Or, drop your ballot off at your Township Clerk’s office by placing it in their drop boxes or handing to a Clerk.  Please see video below to view the locations of each of the Leelanau County Townships Clerks Office’s Drop Boxes.

If you have not mailed your ballot by October 20th, please drop it off at your Township Office.  We can no longer count on the mail system to deliver your ballot by Election Day, if mailed after October 20th.  We LOVE our Postal Workers, this, as we know, is not their fault.  We value their service especially during this time of Covid!

Ballots must be received at your Clerk’s office by November 3rd in order to be counted!Watch the video below to see where the AV Drop Box is located at your Township Clerk’s office.  Remember to seal and sign your AV envelope before dropping off your ballot.
Patricia Soutas-Little
Incumbent Candidate
County Commissioner
District 5
Usually about this time of year I would be knocking at your door, visiting in-person, and asking about your views on community issues of concern to you and your family. The COVID 19 pandemic has changed so much in our daily lives and door-knocking this year is not possible.  But Leelanau residents are resilient, and we are finding other ways to communicate with each.  Thanks to our creative Dems, we have Pop-Up Offices in a different location each week Thursday through Sunday, which has provided us a safe, small group, social gathering space.  It has been nice to see so many enthusiastic folks come by.  A huge ‘thank you’ to all our fellow Dems who are devoting part of their time each week to make this possible.
The last six months have been a difficult and confusing time for all of us with many challenges confronting our families and our businesses.  I am deeply honored to serve as your Leelanau County Commissioner working with you to address these issues and searching for solutions to the difficult problems before us today.  As Commissioners, we acknowledge that our roles have changed and our first priority now is to help those in dire need of surviving this pandemic in every way we can.As we mourn the loss of the iconic Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, we must remember the lessons she taught and the sage advice she left us.  Judge Ginsburg reminded us that “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.”  It’s time to take that next step and be sure to cast your vote for enduring change in this 2020 election.

It has been great to meet so many fired up Democrats at our Pop Up offices!  We are getting our signs around the County, and I am getting a chance to meet so many of the people I have called for this campaign.  Our absentee ballots should come this week – we can finally vote!  Let’s get our ballots in early – either by mail or we can put them in our township clerk’s drop box (I don’t believe Kasson has a drop box – but the other’s do).  We have slate sheets at our Pop Up offices if you need help with choices. I sure appreciate all who have been willing to put up my sign – thank you!  I will come pick them up after the election – and use them again in 2022!!  Let’s do this!

Why am I running for our County Commission?  I care deeply about our County, and believe that we should use our tax dollars wisely to improve our way of life.  I have attended Board of Commissioner meetings for years, and too many decisions are based on ideology, and a belief that government should not be proactive but instead should focus only on funding our courts, jail, sheriff, tax collection and roads.  We have worked hard for our money, and the taxes we pay should and can be used to improve our quality of life in Leelanau County.  I believe in the idea that with government, we have the opportunity to pool our dollars and do more for ourselves than we could afford to do individually.  As such, as a Commissioner, I will be an advocate for collaboration, looking for grants and funding sources for programs that meet the needs of citizens.

Our current Commissioner, Peachy Rentenbach, has done an outstanding job representing us, and has been a voice of reason for Empire, Glen Arbor and Cleveland Townships.  Since she has decided to step down, I am honored to work to take her place representing our district on the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners.
